Word on the street is that Christina Aguilera can act. That means she’s ready to leap frog over Mariah Carey (for the lackluster Glitter) and Britney Spears (for the forgettable Crossroads) in a bid to hit the heights not reached since Barbara Streisand gave the world (the remake of) A Star is Born! Given the loopy premise–that this girl’s DREAM is to dirty dance at a failing LA nightclub–I’d be ready to dismiss Burlesque in a hot minute except that Aguilera has shown the good sense to work with heavyweights Cher and, get ready, Stanley Tucci. What the? Some are dismissing the effort as a soon-to-be camp classic, and the trailer doesn’t exactly make me question that notion.

In it we learn that small-town girl Ali (played by Aguilera) is hired by Tess (Cher), whose grumpy exterior must surely mask a heart of gold. Oy. Ali almost blows her chance onstage, then she starts sing. Even the gay bartender stops in his tracks. I can’t wait to hear this and the other three songs Aguilera wrote for the movie, though it’s Cher’s song that provides the theme with “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me.”

Christina Aguilera says her two-year-old son is “all about” talking.

The 29-year-old singer has one child, Max, with her husband Jordan Bratman. Christina loves being a mother and can’t believe how fast her baby is growing up.

He said his first word months ago but has recently started talking almost non-stop, something Christina loves.

“He’s all about talking. He’s always learning new words,” she gushed.

One of Christina’s favourite pastimes is reading to Max. His favourite story is Where the Wild Things Are because he shares a name with its protagonist.

“The main character is named Max so he relates well,” Christina laughed.

Christina, Jordan and Max also enjoy listening to music together. The singer says her son is particularly fond of drum and bass tracks and suspects he is going to want a drum kit of his own when he gets older.

“We listen to songs as a family too. He loves the drums. I think we have a future drummer on our hands,” Christina told Us Weekly magazine.

Christina Aguilera is doing her part to help the arts.

The Grammy-winning singer is lending her voice to a fundraiser in support of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s latest project.

Aguilera will perform at the Sept. 25 grand opening celebration of the museum’s Lynda and Stewart Resnick Pavilion, described by LACMA as “the largest purpose-built, naturally lit, open-plan museum space in the world.”

The 29-year-old pop star said she’s honored to help celebrate the 45,000-square-foot exhibition building, which was designed by Renzo Piano.

The gala fundraiser is open to the public. Individual tickets are $5,000 to $10,000 and tables are available for $25,000 to $100,000.

The other day we revealed Katy Perry’s latest release from her upcoming Teenage Dream album, “Circle The Drain.” Basically an ex-boyfriend dis track, it’s got more rock than the pop songs — like “California Gurls” we’ve heard from Teenage Dream.

According to “Burlesque” director, Steven Antin, he has confirmed on his twitter, that more music videos, Cher clips and more to come. While he has also confirmed Christina doing voice overs today.

When Speakeasy took a look at the first trailer for Christina Aguilera’s coming movie “Burlesque” we were a bit horrified. Aguilera is a fine singer who sometimes makes terrible stylistic choices; you wouldn’t want to hire her as an interior designer unless you were opening up a brothel on Mars. The first trailer for “Burlesque” seemed to reflect the tacky side of Xtina–corny dialogue, seamy dancing, and Cher. In classic cartoons, characters have a devil sitting on one shoulder and an angel on the other, vying for their conscience; Aguilera has a tiny Etta James on one shoulder and a miniature Hooters manager on the other. Who will win the battle for her soul? This shouldn’t be a fair fight, but surprisingly it is.
