Christina is wonderful. I knew she had a big voice and was a really good singer and wore too much make-up, and that’s pretty much all I knew about her. When I met her on this movie we talked a lot about life and work and acting. It was interesting to watch a girl who’s had courage and was going to try something she didn’t really know how to do [acting] but just does it anyway. I like to see that in a woman. I kind of did for Christina what Meryl Streep did for me in Silkwood. I just said to her, “I have your back, I’m here to support you; don’t worry, I will help you in every way I can, I will never make you look stupid or do anything to hurt you.” So we became friends.’
